Heaven is a place in Naperville

I always love when friends come to visit me in my hometown. It gives me an opportunity to see my small little town with new eyes, have a fresh beginning. And that Friday, we had a chance to taste our way around! But I’m here to talk about a particular little gem…

After classics like Portillo’s and Joy Yee’s where we each split half an Italian Beef and bubble tea, we headed to Heaven on Seven in the heart of Naperville. This restaurant has always been Naperville’s best-kept secretHeaven on Seven looks like a dinky little thing. But once you walk in, you’re surprised at how large the restaurant is!

And, true to its Louisiana flavor (I’m so punny), there were all different breeds of hot sauce lining the walls. There were brands that I didn’t even know existed until bumping into them here.

Over starting drinks, we watched as our brothers slowly bond, we scanned the text-heavy menu. There was so much that we’d never had before, since neither of us had ever been to New Orleans! There were Po’ Boys, Jambalaya, hot wings, and most importantly, gumbo.

Yep, that’s right. Heaven on Seven is most famous for its gumbo. So we quickly took care of it by ordering two of those!

We also wanted to sample the Angry Chicken Po’ Boy as well as the Seafood Jambalaya. So we did just that, soaking in the lively ambience as we waited for our next course to make its way to the table.

The sandwich was difficult to share, a dish poorly planned for what we intended. But we made it work, scarfing it down hungrily. We dished a few spoonfuls of the coleslaw in each bite and the sweet and spicy combination left us hungry for more. But it also left a trail of FIRE down to my stomach, which I think I dealt with bravely. I only asked for water about 5 times, so…

The jambalaya we were only able to take a few bites of because of the build up of food that we’d been munching on since the food hop started. But it was amazingly spiced and heavy with flavor, generously dotted with large chunks of sausage and shrimp. Just what we were looking for!

So, if you’re ever in Naperville, I highly recommend stopping by for a slice of heaven… from Heaven on Seven! Whatever you end up ordering, make sure it comes with a hearty dose of gumbo!

That looks delicious- I regret not trying more Southern style food when I was up in America- I remember my friend cringing when I admitted to liking collard greens.

Haha, collard greens are a type of vegetable! Nothing bad about it ;) But yeah, there are some things that I just want to try out of curiosity…
