October Goals

I’ve always liked the Weekly Wishes link up, but honestly that’s too micro for me. Instead, I created this new thing where I do a post/life roundup as well as a look forward into the upcoming month. We’ll see how this goes.

I know that it’s already mid-October and that there were no June/July/August/September recaps, but given the lack of information about where I am and what I’ve been doing on the blog so far is greatly lacking.

First, I traveled from Santa Rosa after winding up as a U.S. tour guide back home for a whopping 3 days.

Then I headed out on possibly the worst sequence of flights ever to Puerto Vallarta for a week of vacation… From my vacation job.

And now, it’s time to head back to the States! I’ll arrive at midnight, wake up early the nextmorning because a tour leader friend is in town, and finally hop on an afternoon Megabus to my alma mater. The weekend after that, I’m planning on heading to my brother’s university to see him because it’s been about 4 months since I last saw him and I’ve been moving around too much to fit him in since!

And finally, at the end of October, I’m flying into Denver, CO to start a small road trip to Reno, NV, where the year-end tour leader party is every year. There’s talk of heading back to Denver after that, renting a car with that one buddy of mine that I did all those rescues with in the beginning of season, and heading through the Rockies and ending up in his hometown in Texas for Wurstfest. This would be really cool because I haven’t had a roadtrip doing the things I want to do in a long time. And this would give me a chance to drop by Dallas to visit a tattoo artist that I desperately want a tattoo from.

I want to be able to sit down one day and crank out at least 10 posts. For some reason when I write a post, it takes such a long time… And I never feel completely satisfied with it even though I have no patience to actually edit whatever gets put down. I think that’s because for me, a blog is a reflection of the fundamental part of who I am; the editing process disguises and flowers up whatever thoughts I have.

Right now, I’m sitting on 20 blog posts that have yet to be written. I have the ideas but not the words or time for them yet. Also, as my life keeps speeding ahead, the ones in the past get increasingly irrelevant.

In a few months, my blog will be years behind where I am in life right now!

I want to read. I want to read a lot.

During the off-season, not only will I read for pleasure, but I’ll also read to buff up on my U.S. history and stories. While on tour, there were a few moments where I was painfully aware of my lack of knowledge about certain things. Sure, I spent the first 18 years of my life learning about American History repetitively—thankfully because I’ve retained a surprising amount of information—but I want to know more. And more specific things, like Navajo history, John Muir, etc!

Watch out for multiple reading roundups!

I know this has, without fail, been on my monthly goals. But I’m serious about it this time, guys! This time, in the mindset of “if I could lead tours across the U.S., I can ______,” I’m going to set S.M.A.R.T. goals this time!

It’s time that I faced the facts that no weight will be lost unless I modify my diet as well. I’ve tried to avoid that time after time… but there’s no more avoiding it. Weight loss is, after all, 80% diet and 20% activity.

Since I want to keep myself super accountable, I’m going to throw a number out there. 5 pounds by November guys! I’m saying that because I know I’ll drop those quickly… vacation bloat, you know?

What are your October goals? How are they doing?

October is going to be a busy month for you!! I know the feeling of all the blog posts, things have been so hectic lately that I don’t even know where to start with things. Plus, I have a report to write and I should be doing that and not writing blog posts!

Good luck! I know what you mean about busting out blog posts. I have so many unfinished drafts. I was never a perfectionist at school. I’d write a paper and submit it without ever reviewing it. But my blog? So hard to ever hit post!
