Playing with new toys ;)

Stop it, you dirty gutter mind. I meant my new ultra-wide angle lens, the Canon EFS 10-22 mm lens for you camera buffs out there. However, retrieving the package from the concierge was a difficult procedure.

The first weekend here, I met the president of the student resident association who kinda fell in crush with me. He kept trying to message me on Facebook until finally I just stopped responding. He happened to be working the front desk the night the lens arrived and in order to pick up my package, I had to awkwardly interact with him. This is not one of those times where you say “oh that was so awkward” and it was actually fine. This was LEGIT awkward because he gave me the cold shoulder (which I’m thankful for), but also slammed down the book I needed to sign the package out and the package. Seriously, take it easy, bro.

Anyways, I had a 4-hour gap between a few classes today. Originally, I was going to use that time to exercise (swim/Jillian Michaels… don’t make fun of me) for the first consistent time in 2 months, but I got distracted by friends. So I took the opportunity—really any excuse not to exercise—to play with my new toy! Verdict? Love it. So. So. So. Much.

It can be a pretty tricky lens to tame; you can capture so much more, but that makes it’s that much harder to control what goes in your shot and what doesn’t. I often found myself only able to make a certain number of shots from one place before the trees crept in.

But because it’s a challenge, I know I will never grow bored of it. After all, I love a good challenge.

Anyways, onto…

weekly wishes man paragliding in clouds LAST WEEK’S WISHES

Ha. Ha. Let’s not mention my failure of epic proportions to keep up with this.

  1. Stay on top of things. One of my biggest flaws has always been getting re-motivated, throw myself into my new daily and weekly objectives and then burn out by the end of the week. I refuse to do that this time (this is me in re-motivation mode). I will stay on top of things and not give myself too much slack… but at a manageable pace so I don’t burn out this time.
  2. Hold on until Thursday. Thursday, I’m heading off to Barcelona!! All I have to do is check off all the things I need to do before that—there’s a post coming up with those. I can do it. I can do it.
  3. Enjoy Barcelona—technology blackout. I’m going to try something I haven’t done in a while and give myself a technology time out. I feel like lately, trying to travel and collect stories for the blog has interfered with the way I travel. I should travel for me first and then for the blog second. So I’m going to abstain from anything. Except for when trying to communicate with friends staying at other hostels. Good thing about this is that you’ll be able to look forward to posts about Barcelona soon!

I know—AND I’ll only have two days of school this week. Thanks :))

:) I have such a hard time using wider lenses for that same reason. Maybe because I tend to be detail oriented and not big picture. Best of luck on the technology blackout! I’ve been meaning to unplug for a while now. It’s so hard when you’re trying to blog regularly though. :P Have fun in Barcelona!

Right? Hopefully I’ll be able to get the hang of it soon! I feel exactly the same way about blogging regularly—sometimes I get little panics that the whole blog will fall to pieces while I’m gone!

      • esther julee

i know that feeling for sure… i guess i haven’t really looked at my analytics to know for sure…

        • Mishfish13

Haha, I try to limit obsessing over it :p sometimes it just doesn’t work out…

  • Zia @ Bits of Days

I also find it’s hard to do #1, I have so many things I want to accomplish but by middle of the week I’m just not that motivated anymore… But good luck!
Anyway, how fun going to Barcelona! I’ve been living in Germany for more than a year but never went South! I saw your About page and I hope you cam travel as much as you can while you’re in Europe. We had exchange students from last year who came from US and they traveled around Europe every weekend :)

    • Mishfish13

Before I got here, I didn’t really feel the pull of the south here… and then I went to Marseille! Thank you so much—I really hope I can make it to the destinations that I really want to see! :) Although I’m not sure about EVERY weekend. That sounds exhausting :P

These pictures are so lovely! Your camera sounds amazing, not that I’ve ever used one of those high end cameras before. Pictures with my iPhone are pretty much the extent of my photography skills.
Can’t wait to hear about Barcelona, hope you have a great and technology free time!

    • Mishfish13

Dude, the iPhone technology now is getting pretty high-end. Instagram? Gold. And thanks so much :))

  • Kate Jordan

Ohhh super awkward with the guy! On the plus side, your pictures are gorgeous!

    • Mishfish13

Ahh, thanks Kate :) I know, I hate situations like that haha…
